ESG Milestones and Impact

During the year, ICEA LION advanced its sustainability agenda through the following initiatives:

Launched the Geothermal Well Output Insurance Product, supporting cleaner energy markets

Participated in a tree planting exercise at Ruiru Sports Club in line with our sustainability pillar. 

Established a tree nursery at our Riverside Park property to boost urban reforestation. 

Celebrated ESG Week with our inaugural Group ESG Drive and ESG Day, raising awareness across the Group.

Joined UNEP-FI’s PSI, released 1st Sustainability Report
2018
Adopted sustainable practices (Mulika Garama), 2nd Report
2019
Introduced 6 Capitals & Integrated Thinking, 1st Integrated Report.
2020
Joined TCFD Pilot Group, aligned products with SDGs.
2021
Co-curated PSI Africa Market Event, launched the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance.
2022
Joined TNFD Africa pilot, co-hosted COP27 with UN partners.
2023
Joined UN Global Compact, launched climate resilience solutions.
2024
Became TNFD early adopters, held 1st ESG Drive, secured ESG TA from FSD Africa.

Integrating ESG with Financial Reporting: IFRS S1 & S2

This year marks a transformative chapter as we incorporate IFRS S1 (Sustainability Disclosure) and IFRS S2 (Climate Disclosure) into our financial reporting. These global standards are shaping how we communicate value and responsibility. Key Implementation Structures:
